Welcome to our website. My name is Dr. Enrico Wensing.
My wife and I are honored and excited to open a new dental office on St. Thomas in the beautiful US Virgin Islands. Our brand new office is located in the Royal Palms Professional Building, in Suite 105. This is right behind the hospital on the road (Perimater Road) between The Foothills Building and Lockhart Elementary School.
Many of you might already know my wife, Dr. Carolyn Jones. She has lived on St. Thomas for many years and has a family medical practice on Raphune Hill Road.
On this page, I would like to tell you a bit about myself, my education and experience, as well as what I believe in when it comes to providing great dental care.
First off, let’s start with my name. Enrico Wensing. What’s that? I’ve had to explain my name most of my life because as many people have told me, “You sure don’t look like an Enrico!” This is true. Here’s the explanation: In my family it was tradition to name the first born son after the father’s father. My dad’s father was named Henk. However, by the time I was born there were already three Henk’s in my extended family. My parents didn’t want to make it a forth, but they also didn’t want to break with tradition. So, being creative, they gave me the Italian version of Henk, which is Enrico. My middle name is Jacques, which is the French version of my mother’s father’s name, Jakob. Although I was born in Haarlem, Holland, I grew-up in Canada where I was adopted by a German family after I lost my parents when I was young. As part of the adoption I took their last name, Wensing. So, there you have me, Enrico Jacques Wensing.
I obtained my Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Toronto, Canada. I have been a scholar researcher with the Canadian Medical Foundation and the U.S. National Science Foundation. I hold a Master of Science degree in molecular genetics and a PhD in psychology that I applied to education for global sustainability.
In my career as a dentist, I have worked as a clinical instructor at the Faculty of Dentistry, University Toronto, I have worked on the Navaho Reservation for the Indian Health Service in New Mexico, and I have owned and operated private practices in Toronto and Vermont. Additionally, I have been an associate in dentistry in Newfoundland, Canada and St. Thomas, USVI. This experience has given me a broad view of how dentistry is being done, and how it could be done better.
I am a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and a member of the American Dental Association. Additionally, I hold a Certificate of Merit from the Clinical Masters Program in Implant Dentistry that I was awarded at New York University in 2017.
St. Thomas Dental is a general dental practice. We provide everything from check-ups, tooth fixing, cleanings, tooth removals, to dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, dentures and gum surgery; to name a few of our services. Beyond that our goal is to be anything but general. Allow me to explain.
Building a new office from scratch on St. Thomas has given us the opportunity to make something truly great. Something that provides you, our patients, with a much better experience than a traditional dental office. I am taking my more than 20 years’ experience in dentistry, combining it with some of the most amazing state of the art technology that has been developed in dentistry, and bringing it together with a truly amazing group of dedicated, kind, and experienced office staff to create the ultimate positive experience in dental care for our patients. Located at Suite 105 Royal Palms Professional Building, we are already calling our office “Amazing 105.”
We believe dentistry can be done differently than the status quo. It can be done better. We believe in dentistry done beautifully.
